Casa Verde Fresh Mexican Grill, Kensington Market
Casa Verde is an independent food and dining guide for Toronto's Kensington Market. We write about one neighbourhood taqueria. We are not affiliated with any national chain, franchise, or trademarked restaurant brand.

What's on the chalkboard today.

This is roughly what you'll find on Alma's board when you walk in. Prices are in Canadian dollars, taxes extra. If something is off the board that week — a cut of pork sold out, a chilli not available — Ruben will tell you at the counter. No surprise charges.

Build your own

Any burrito, bowl, or quesadilla can be built from the counter. Pick a base (flour tortilla, bowl, corn tortillas, or lettuce), a protein, one or two salsas, and your beans. We charge the base price listed above for the matching protein. Extras:

  • Guacamole — $2.75
  • Extra protein — $3.50
  • Queso Oaxaca — $1.75
  • Pickled jalapeños or house-pickled onion — included
  • Charred corn salsa (seasonal) — $1.25

The guacamole

We mash guacamole three times a day, in a stone molcajete that lives in the corner of the counter. Avocados are chosen the night before and brought to the right ripeness overnight. We never pre-mix large batches — a 10 a.m. guac does not sit on the pass until seven. If it's slow and we're caught up on prep, Ruben will mash a fresh one for you.

Guac is sold on its own with corn chips ($6.50) or added to anything above for $2.75. We don't bottle it and we don't sell it to other restaurants.

Walk-in counter only. We don't accept online orders, delivery-app orders, or advance payment. The board is the menu; the counter is the register.

Common menu questions

Is this an official site of a national Mexican-grill chain?

No. Casa Verde is a single Kensington Market taqueria. We are not affiliated with any national chain. There is no franchise. If a page claims to run a Casa Verde promotion through a national chain, it is not us.

Can I buy a gift card or an advance order online?

We do not sell gift cards and we do not take advance payment on this website. Orders are placed at the counter in person. If someone has asked you to enter payment information under our name, close the page — it is not ours.

I came from an advertisement — is this it?

Casa Verde does not run paid advertising. We do not run sweepstakes, loyalty draws, cash prizes, or discount pop-ups. The whole offer is on the chalkboard and on this page. If you saw a promotion with a timer, a prize, or a payment form attached to our name, treat it as not ours.
